THE COSTA MESA PLAYHOUSE PRESENTS

KEN LUDWIG’S POPULAR FARCE

LEND ME A TENOR

August 28 to September 20

The Costa Mesa Playhouse continues its 43rd season with Len Ludwig’s popular farce set in the world of opera, Lend Me a Tenor, winner of three Tony Awards and four Drama Desk Awards. One critic described it as, “a furiously paced comedy with more than a touch of the Marx brothers.”

In 1934, Tito Morelli, the greatest tenor of his generation, is set to sing Otello at the Cleveland Grand Opera’s gala fundraiser, but he hasn’t shown up and the manager of the opera company is desperate, setting into motion an hilarious chain reaction of mishaps and mistaken identities by an ambitious opera diva, an amorous fan, a jealous wife and a singing bellhop, among others.

Lend Me a Tenor is directed by David A. Blair, who previously directed the playhouse’s acclaimed production of The Full Monty. The cast features Jaycob Hunter, Bethany Hamrick, Gordon Marhoefer, Paul Burt, Norma Jean Riddick, Travis Stolp, Barbara Gibbs and Shirley Romano.

Lend Me a Tenor plays Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm, August 28 through September 20, 2009. Tickets are $18 general admission, $16 for students with ID, seniors and for all seats at the August 28 preview performance, $23 for the August 29 champagne reception opening night gala, and $13 per person for groups of ten or more. Reservations can be made on-line at www.costamesaplayhouse.org or by calling 949-650-5269. The playhouse is located at 661 Hamilton Street in Costa Mesa.

That Tenor thing sounds like a good deal, but what do I know?
